Day #2 of My Portfolio Shoots

I was supposed to have a total of 5 sessions this weekend, but two of them cancelled due to illness. That nasty flu is going around, and I feel bad for them if they felt as terribly as I felt a couple of weeks ago. While I really hate that my clients were sick, I think God was telling me to slooooooow down. I tend to get a bit ambitious and excited with new projects. While I am sure I would have been able to do all of the photography, editing, blogging, web posting and Facebook posting for all 5 sessions, I am pretty sure I would have been an exhausted, babbling mess today. I am so glad that I was able to take my time with each session, and get to know the families. They were all so wonderful and I am so greatful for their participation!

So, this little rock star of a kid was probably the easiest to shoot that I have ever worked with (not that any of them have ever been too tough)! He was all in! He'd smile when I asked, not smile when I asked...he even had a few ideas of his own, which I loved! He and his sweet Momma were lovely and I hope to work with them again!

Wow! Today has been a lot of time and planning in the making...and it was a success (if I do say so myself)! Here are some of my favorite images from the day.

Baby Bliss {Jupiter Baby Shower Photography}

Last week, I had the pleasure of photographing a baby shower for Britni and Ralph at Carlin Park in Jupiter. It was probably the windiest day I have ever seen in South FL, but that didn't matter. There were over 40 family members and friends there to cheer on the parents-to-be. Let me tell you, this shower put most I have seen to shame. There was a chef there making omelets to order, an entire buffet, crazy cool party favors, awesome games and tons and tons of LOVE. Britni and Ralph are waiting to find out the gender of their baby...which is so admirable in my eyes. Kevin wanted to wait to find out with both of our boys, but I am TERRIBLE with surprises and just couldn't do it. The theme was turtles and frogs. Precious! See the incredible cake below made by the grandmother-to-be. Can you believe she does this as a hobby...UNREAL! I can only image the birthday cakes this little one will have in the years to come. Britni and Ralph are a beautiful, funny couple and I wish them all the happiness in the world. This is one lucky baby! Congrats, y'all...I hope you love your photos!

One of my favorite images EVER...4 generations...Love it!

How Should I Dress My Children For Their Photo Session?

I am asked this questions before almost EVERY session. It's hard to put together an outfit for a child, especially one that you are going to have documented in a photograph that will last an eternity! I know parents who put A LOT of pressure on themselves to get it just right. Personally, I do not like for my subjects to be too matchy-matchy. I love when a client arrives for the shoot in an outfit that is a little off-beat and edgy.

Below, I have some examples of clothing that I would love to photograph a child in. The looks are all about layering, which gives you the option to take a jacket off or add a hat for a whole different look without too much effort.

Like I said, these are just ideas. You do not have to dress your children in these exact outfits in order to book a session with me. It's really just a guide with some ideas...it's the feel I'm going for. The photos below are courtesy of Children's Place, Gap Kids, and Justice. Let me know if you have any questions or if you want to bounce any ideas off of me before a shoot.

Modeling Opportunity {Wellington Children's Photogrphy}

I am looking for some fresh faces for my professional portfolio and I am REALLY wanting to try out some new ideas. Please give me a call if you are interested in a free modeling opportunity for your child. Space is limited (5 children total, but I have already booked one of the sessions) and I want to shoot on January 29th and 30th (either @ 8 am or 5 pm).

I will waive the session fee ($75 value) and provide a free 11x14 of your favorite image. In exchange, I will require you to sign a model release allowing me to use the images in my advertising, and on my website or blog. No additional print purchase is required, but is always welcomed and appreciated.

Requirements:

Girls Ages 6-9 and 12-15

Boys Ages 6-9

Guidelines:

I will be choosing the location and styling the session. I will only be shooting in Wellington or downtown WPB. I will provide you with a "look" I want for the shoot. You can bring some clothing and accessories, and I will bring some as well. Together, we should be able to get the perfect style for the shoot. In your inquiry, please include your child's clothing and shoe size so that I can be on the look out for some great finds!

Please keep in mind that these will not be traditional portraits. I am going for something a little more dramatic and artsy than usual. I really want you to enjoy and appreciate these photos, but I also need a very specific type of image for my portfolio...so I will need to call the shots. If this is not your cup of tea...that's okay! Maybe I will need models for more traditional shoots in the future. Stay tuned!

Please respond by email to bburtch@angelkissesphotography.com.

Thanks so much and I look forward to hearing from you!

Hellloooo 2011!!!! {Wellington Family Photography}

So, I didn't stay away long! I've got to take care of work whenever I can...and in this case, while the babies are napping!

On New Year's Eve, I had the pleasure of photographing this wonderfully sweet (and beautiful) family. They had come together from all over to spend the holiday together and were having their first full family photos taken in a very long time. I have to admit, I was a liitle nervous going into the session...I mean, there are 19 of them and only 1 of me. With a group this size, you never know how it's going to go down! But they were all so laid back and goofy and easy to work with. What a great family! It was nice to end my year with a reminder of why I wanted to start this business in the first place!

Thank you, Hoffman Family, for spending your afternoon with me. I hope you all have a VERY happy and healthy 2011!
